CBeebies orders new mixed-media series “What’s On Your Head?”

CBeebies has commissioned a new ten-part factual entertainment series, inspired by the wearing of face masks during the pandemic. Produced by Gold Wala, the show features voiceover from Great British Bake Off star Nadiya Hussain and music from Basement Jaxx. Title Animation and bespoke animation is provided by London based boutique The Animation Guys.
What’s On Your Head? will explore the different things that people wear on their face or head for religious, cultural, professional and safety reasons in a bright and engaging way.
From hijabs to lawyer’s wigs, scuba masks to firefighter helmets – the series is a new way for young children to understand the world around them using a fun combination of live action and animation that both celebrates diversity, humanises difference and explains the reasons why people decide to put something on to cover their head or face.
What’s On Your Head? features a line-up of diverse talent including racing driver and reigning W Series champion Jamie Chadwick, Sikh model Rajvatan Singh Rathour and the first black woman to become a Church of England bishop, Rose Hudson-Wilkin. Legendary dance music duo Basement Jaxx have composed the theme music with Nadiya Hussain lending her famous style to the voice over.
We are thrilled to be bringing a new format to CBeebies to reflect their renewed commitment to diversity in the modern world. Inspired by a year where children have seen the everyone around them cover their faces, What’s On Your Head? will celebrate difference and reward curiosity. We can’t wait for families to enjoy the bright, modern and joyful world that we have created!

What’s On Your Head? airs on the Cbeebies channel 16:10 each weekday from Monday 15th February. It is Executive Produced by Faraz Osman and Jess De Santis, with Kate Monaghan Series Producing. Director of Photography is Man Like Mobeen’s Bud Gallimore and the editor is Gym Star’s Giancarlo De Santis. Animation is provided by The Animation Guys, with voiceover from Nadiya Hussian original music from Basement Jaxx. The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Michael Towner.
