Cartoon Forum 2014 Gears Up For Exciting New TV Projects
23 – 26th September, 2014
Each year Cartoon Forum (pitching and co-production forum for animated TV projects) seems to get bigger and better. This year sees 86 projects being presented, compared to last year’s 68.
Again, this year’s event is held in the French city of Toulouse – which makes it less surprising that France will be bringing the most projects this year (29) following by the United Kingdom (10), with Belgium and Ireland in joint third place (9).
Here some interesting facts for this year’s event:
- If you were to watch all the projects back-to-back, you would be sitting for 503 hours (or almost 21 days) in the cinema
- 2D animation continues to rule – as 47 projects (55%) utilise only 2D techniques, with a further 14 projects (16%) using a combination of 2D and 3D/CGI
- If you combined the budgets of all projects it would total £200 million (€253 million)
- The average production cost per minute has gone down to £6,500 (€8,300) from £7,200 (€9,150) in 2012
- Children aged 5-11 will be the most catered for this year, with 39 projects (45%), with pre-school coming a close second with 32 projects (37%)
Keep your eyes peeled over the coming days for our preview of the UK & Ireland’s TV projects – which will hopefully make it to TV screens in the next few years.
