Canimation Shortlist Announced!

// News

Skwigly

Since its launch in October, hundreds of animation students, professionals and hobbyists have submitted their traditional, CG and stop-motion entries to Red Bull’s Canimation competition, a nationwide contest which offers its winners valuable software packages, internships at some of the UK’s top animation studios and the chance to have their work seen on Channel 4 and in cinemas across the country! In the last two weeks each animated entry’s public reception – through ‘like’s, comments and shares – has been evaluated and considered to put together a shortlist of finalists for each category. The final ‘student’ and ‘open’ competition winners chosen by the Canimation panel – James Farrington of The Mill, Merlin Crossingham of Aardman, Jayne Pilling of the British Animation Awards, Tom Tagholm of 4Creative and Dave Anderson of 12foot6 – will be announced tomorrow at the Red Bull Canimation Awards Ceremony, hosted by Alex Zane and taking place at London’s Leicester Square theatre. Canimation judge Merlin Crossingham (read his full Skwigly interview here) has described the quality of the submissions as being “very high across the board. Regardless of the relative experience of each entry, I appreciate that a lot of time and energy goes into animation of any style, so thanks to everyone who submitted a film, and well done to the short listed film makers. Judging is not going to be easy.”

Best of luck to everyone!
