CALL FOR ENTRIES: Cardiff Animation Festival submissions now open!
The new Cardiff Animation Festival (CAF) has opened its call for entries for its first edition.
The deadline for submissions is Friday 12th January 2018, with discounted Earlybird submissions running until Friday 13th October 2017.
CAF is calling for entries of International Animated Shorts from all countries worldwide, Animated Student Shorts, Welsh Animated Shorts, Micro Animated Shorts running at two minutes or less, and Young Animated Shorts produced by young people aged 16 and under.
Established by the team from Cardiff Animation Nights, CAF will showcase some of the best animation from all over the world, with a broad selection of animated short films, features, masterclasses, workshops, filmmaker Q+As, industry panels, networking events and parties.
Held at Chapter, the Welsh capital’s vibrant arts hub, the festival will provide a brand new focal point for Cardiff’s growing animation community, and a meeting place for industry, independent animators and enthusiasts from the wider animation world. Over three days, from the 20th-22nd April 2018, CAF will provide a new platform in Wales for the best of British and international animation, and will welcome independent filmmakers, exciting new talent and established industry greats to Europe’s youngest capital city.
The CAF team ran two taster events for the festival this summer: a Lotte Reiniger special in June, featuring short films, a free shadow puppetry workshop and a screening of The Adventures of Prince Achmed with a live score; and a Late Night Work Club special in July, bringing directors from the international animation collective to Cardiff to talk and show their work.
The team behind CAF have been running animation events in Cardiff since 2014, including a dedicated animation strand at Cardiff Independent Film Festival (CiFF). The CiFF animation strand screened an eclectic selection of animated shorts from across Europe, Asia, North America, South America, and Australia. The strand also featured masterclasses from UK animation industry giants Aardman, ground-breaking children’s TV creator Ben Bocquelet, and Oscar-nominated Cardiff-based animation director Joanna Quinn.
