Cardiff Animation Festival opens calls for entries for 2020 edition

// Festival Call for Entries

Cardiff Animation Festival (CAF) has opened its call for entries for its highly anticipated 2020 edition.

With a submissions deadline of Friday 6th December 2019, the festival are offering discounted Earlybird submissions running until Friday 4th October 2019.

We’re looking for entries of International Animated Shorts from all countries worldwide, Animated Student Shorts, and Micro Animated Shorts running at two minutes or less. To encourage a broad selection, entry to CAF will cost as little as $1-$2 for Earlybird submissions. $1! You can barely get a Freddo for that these days.

If you attended the 2018 festival, then you won’t need us to tell you how great it was, but in the interests of newsletter material: The 2018 festival boasted 99 films in competition, with 51% of those directed by female filmmakers. We didn’t want to make a song and dance about that at the time, but we’re really happy about that! The winning films were judged by a highly accredited industry Jury, including award winning filmmaker Rhiannon Evans, Aardman Animation Director Will Becher, and British Animation Awards director Helen Brunsdon.

The festival will return to Cardiff arts hub Chapter from April 2nd-5th 2020 with a focus on growth, diversity and sustainability. Hear about some of the highlights of their inaugural 2018 edition in episode 80 of the Skwigly Animation Podcast as well as interviews with attending filmmakers in our podcast minisode series:
