British Academy Children’s Awards
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced the winners of this years Children’s awards at a ceremony at the Hilton hotel in London. As you would come to expect with the arts most versatile medium, animation featured very heavily in the list of winners. Here is how the awards panned out from an animation point of view.
The Amazing World of Gumball took home two awards one for best animation as well as best writer, shared between Ben Bocquelet, James Lamont and Jon Foster. The best comedy went to Horrible Histories, the TV series based on the popular childrens books. The programme uses a mix of live action with segments animated by Babycow. The best independent production company went to Blue Zoo, the company behind Tree Fu Tom. Spongebob Squarepants picked up the best international award and Astley Baker Davies took home the best pre school award for Peppa Pig, both series continuing their reign of popularity that has stood them both in good stead for a few years now. Jam media picked up best drama for their live action animation hybrid Roy and CITV’s Share a Story took home the award for best short form for its series of collaborations between some of the animation worlds freshest talents and some fantastically imaginative stories told by children.
A special award was given to Brian Cosgrove for outstanding creative contribution to the industry. The man who co-crafted the likes of Dangermouse and Duckula and brought children’s literature to life with adaptations of the B.F.G and The Wind in the Willows alongside his partner Mark Hall who passed away last year. He was presented with the award by Sir David Jason who voiced many of the characters as well as being a close friend of Brian Cosgrove.
