Bob Godfrey’s GREAT to be remastered and released
The Bob Godfrey Collection has today announced the forthcoming release of Bob Godfrey’s Oscar-winning animated short GREAT which will be made available on Blu- Ray/DVD and Digital HD download. This marks the first time that the film has been released since it’s short-lived initial cinematic release in 1975.
The film was the first UK film to be awarded the academy award for animated short. The film was a labour of love for Godfrey who created his half hour rip-roaring, musical homage to Victorian Industrialist Isambard Kingdom Brunel between the commercial work that his studio was producing at the time.
Until recently, StudioCanal held the rights to the film, along with Bob’s Oscar-nominated short, Kama Sutra Rides Again (1971). After several months of negotiations, the rights to both films are now held by The Bob Godfrey Collection. To mark the 40th anniversary since GREAT was completed, Godfrey’s Grandson Tom Lowe is making a documentary featuring interviews with some of the animators, artists and technicians who worked on the film. This 30-minute documentary will be included with all Blu-Rays, DVDs and Digital HD downloads.
The release date for Digital HD downloads has been confirmed as 6 March 2017 and 27 March 2017 for Blu-Rays and DVDs. Pre-orders are now being taken at the Bob Godfrey Collection web store at www.bobgodfreyfilms.com/store. Prices are currently discounted to £5.99 for Digital HD downloads and £19.99 (plus postage) for the Blu-Ray/DVD. Those wishing to download a SD version of the film only can do so for £2.99 between now and release.
