Bob Godfrey 1921-2013
Bob Godfrey, legendary British animator best known for his work on Roobard and Henry’s Cat has passed away at the age of 91.
Aside from his work on children’s classics he had quite an acclaim for creating hilarious short films of which Great the musical comedy illustrating the life of Isambard Kingdom Brunel won the academy award in 1975 and the BAFTA in 1976 after previous being nominated for The Karma Sutra Rides Again in 1972. He would receive two subsequent nominations in 1979 for Dream Doll and again in 1993 for Small Talk. in 1983 he won his second BAFTA for Henry’s Cat.
For nearly 50 years Bob Godfrey worked with some of animations biggest names including Monty Python’s Terry Gilliam, Oscar Grillo and John Halas before retiring in 1999. He will be sorely missed by the animation community and was often referred to as “The Godfather of British Animation”
