Blackrock Animation Film Festival (BAFF2013) – 10 Days To The Closing Date!
Blackrock Animation Film Festival, Ireland’s animation only film festival will be taking entries up until the 19th July 2013.
This festival is one of the new relatively new festivals on the block and it is currently hosted by Blackrock village in County Dublin and the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT).
Blackrock is better known in Dublin for having famous writers such as James Joyce and Flann O’Brien as residents. What would they make of it?
“I think they would be delighted.” laughs Fionnghuala Ni Neill, the Festival Director, who lives in Blackrock and works for IADT.” James Joyce loved the cinema and I suspect that Flann O’Brien would be interested in having an animated version of “The Third Policeman” made! Flann’s last surviving brother Michael is a well-known local artist and a former satirical cartoonist.”
“I had the idea over four years ago and the Festival started off as a one day event in August 2011. It was a small festival but it worked well. Last year we moved it to October and made it a two-day event between IADT and Blackrock. One of the highlights was having Merlin Crossingham, the Creative Director for Aardman, visit us with Wallace, Gromit and the Pirate Captain. Merlin gave a wonderful workshop for children and adults and an inspiring talk about the animation business to the IADT students. He was great.”
“The entries are coming in.. recently I got one from India and a few from Russia, but I’d love to get a few more from the UK. For the last two years a British animation company won the Community Recognition award. It’ll be interesting to see if happens for the third year in a row!”
