Barry Purves is EIFF 2015’s Master of Animation
Having celebrated the lives work Richard Williams in 2013 and the centenary of Norman McLaren in 2014 the Edinburgh International Film Festival has today announced that the work of acclaimed stop motion animator Barry Purves will be the next focus of their Masters of Animation series. Known for his personal works such as the Oscar nominated Next, produced as part of the Aardman Lip Synch series as well as Screen Play, Rigoletto, Achilles, Gilbert & Sullivan: The Very Models, Tchaikovsky and Plume. Purves is also known for his television series work on Rupert Bear, Follow the Magic… and more recently Toby’s Travelling Circus. A keen advocate of performance in both animation and the stage through his books and classes Purves will be in attendance at the festival in June 2015.

Continuing the Masters of Animation series, which began in 2013 with a focus on multi-Oscar winner Richard Williams, and the centenary celebration of Norman McLaren in 2014, the Festival will present a retrospective of the work of acclaimed animator Barry Purves. The recipient of more than 60 international prizes, as well as Oscar and Bafta nominations, Barry will present a selection of his short animations and will appear in person to discuss his work as an animator, author, stage director and designer.
