Annecy 2018: Summary & Winners

// Reviews (Festival)

Another Annecy Animation Festival is over for another year, but what a year. Whether or not you were fortunate enough to be there this year, join us for a quick catch up and snapshot of what went down at this year’s festival.

From the five short film programmes, (jury and audience awards both going to Trevor Jimenez’s Weekends), to the world premiere of stop-motion feature Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires, this year was the biggest yet: 11,700 badge-holders, 3,800 MIFA badge-holders and 88 countries represented.

Watch our Facebook Live coverage of the festival in our 2 videos below (apologies for the patchy connection!) or jump straight down to this year’s award winners.

Skwigly Live at Annecy 2018 – Part deux!

You couldn’t have missed the fact that Brazil was the country in focus this year – the vibrant colours decorated the Bonlieu, MIFA and the streets of Annecy (not to mention the daily screening trailers, produced by Gobelins).

We couldn’t complete a summary of Annecy without a mention of the annual Skwigly/Joanna Quinn rounders match, which takes place during Nik and Nancy’s picnic. This year a mix of professionals, students, tutors and Skwigly writers made up the two teams: the Ball Breakers and the Underdogs, with the captain of the Ball Breakers taking home the trophy.

Score: Underdogs 4 – 5 Ball Breakers

Next year the festival focus will be on Japan, and will take place between 10th – 15th June 2019. Put the dates in your diary – we are off to book next year’s accommodation already. See you there!
