A delegation of over 15 producers from Animation UK is attending the Annecy International Animated Film Festival 2017 for the first time as a collective group to fly the flag for British animation, supported by the UK Department for International Trade.

Representatives from some of the most successful animation companies across the UK – and across all forms of the genre – including Aardman Animations, Blue Zoo Animation Studio, CAKE, eOne Entertainment UK, Jellyfish Pictures, Locksmith Animation, Lupus Films, Spider-Eye and Mackinnon & Saunders, are joining forces at the prestigious event to celebrate the success of British animation and promote the wealth of talent and resources available in the UK.

With British-made productions including Ethel & Ernest, Loving Vincent, Johnno’s Dead, The Full Story and Lily’s Driftwood Bay featuring in competition across the range of categories including feature films, short films, commissioned films and graduate films, it represents an opportunity to speak to the international audience with one voice and acknowledge the depth and diversity of animation talent in the United Kingdom.

Part of the newly formed UK Screen Alliance, Animation UK exists to provide a collective voice for the industry and promote the cultural and economic significance of UK animation.  This is the first time the organisation has taken at stand at Annecy. Animation UK is actively representing the sector to ensure that that the UK has the right conditions to support growth including a skills and talent base, increased investment and support for new export opportunities. Attending Annecy is the first stage of an international profile-raising plan to benefit members.
Kate O’Connor, Executive Chair Animation UK says.

“The UK is a world leader in animation and offers internationally renowned expertise in a wide range of specialisms, The industry has never been in better health with its long track record of creative and commercial success and wealth of iconic properties and we are keen to capitalise on that and explore new projects, alliances and opportunities at Annecy.”
Helen Brunsdon, Animation UK Director said.

“From Shaun the Sheep to Ethel & Ernest, the UK animation industry continues to create, innovate and tell great stories. Coming to Annecy as one collective group allows us to beat the drum for UK talent and demonstrate to the global industry just what we have to offer.”
