Screen Ireland and the French Embassy, with Animation Dingle, will host an Opening Welcome Sunset Reception at The Great Blasket Centre, Dunquin, not only to launch the return to a live festival for Animation Dingle, but also to acknowledge the new cinematographic co-production agreement between France and Ireland.

Across the Festival programme, centred at The Dingle Skellig Hotel, there is participation from broadcasters and streamers from Ireland, UK, USA, Germany, France, South Africa, Canada and includes: Apple+, BBC, Disney, Gaumont, Lego, Milkshake!, Paramount, Redakteur, RTÉjr, Sony Kids, and Spin Master Entertainment.  We have many international guests this year, and Animation Dingle wants to thank Enterprise Ireland and the IDA for their support here.

Animation submissions have come in from Ireland and around the globe.  Not all submissions are successful, but over 100 films from 26 countries have been selected and with the support of The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, will be screened across the 2-day Festival programme. Nominated films will compete to take home a precious trophy at the high energy RTÉjr Animation Dingle Awards hosted this year by comedy duo Fred Cooke and Julia Jay.

Irish Animator Steve Woods will be honoured with the festival’s greatest accolade, The Murakami Award, sponsored and presented by Cathal Caffney, Managing Director BBF, COO 9 Story Group.

Festival friends at Disney continue as sponsors of The Young Animator of The Year Award.

The festival’s compact nature makes it easy for attendees to enjoy everything the town has to offer and meet fellow animators. It is a short walk to everything, and everyone is friendly and welcoming. Animation Dingle takes pride in how accessible industry professionals and experts are to support and chat with upcoming animation students. Animators will be found in the local classic pub Currans, enjoying a Dingle Whiskey reception for the Closing – keeping it Dingle!

What can we expect this year? The first day of the festival kicks off early with the Conference, featuring a stellar lineup of Panels and Keynotes. Opening keynote How to be Amazing by Mark Simon Hewis from The Aardman Academy will set the perfect pitch and this will be followed later with keynote speakers Denis Do (Funan) and director JP Vine (Ron’s Gone Wrong).

As the world of animation continues to evolve, the festival will host lively discussions, including a Metadingle Panel with experts from Algorithm, Story Toys, Epic Games, Piranha Bar, Expensive JPEG and Xavatar.
