ANIMAFILM International Animation Festival is proud to announce its inclusion in the prestigious BAFTA Qualifying Festivals List for the British Short Animation category. This prestigious recognition marks a significant milestone in our festival’s journey, highlighting our commitment to promoting excellence in animation and supporting talented filmmakers.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has a rigorous selection process for its Qualifying Festivals List, and ANIMAFILM has met the high standards set by BAFTA. This inclusion not only honors the quality and impact of our festival but also provides a remarkable opportunity for filmmakers who showcase their work at ANIMAFILM to be considered for BAFTA.

The British Short Animation category exists to promote and support the best of British short animation, and the aim of the Qualifying Festivals List is to aid BAFTA in identifying these titles.

As a BAFTA Qualifying Festival, ANIMAFILM Festival will now be able to nominate outstanding British short animated films for consideration for the British Short Animation category at the BAFTA Film Awards. This BAFTA qualifying status applies specifically to British short animated films or those co-produced with the UK.

The Open Call for the BAFTA British Short Animation award is now open, and will close on Friday 18 October at 12:00 (GMT). The awards will be presented at the BAFTA Awards ceremony on February 16,  2025. Other animation festivals included in the prestigious BAFTA Qualifying Festivals List are: Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Kaboom Animation Festival,  Animafest Zagreb, Fantoche – International Animation Film Festival, Linoleum Contemporary Animation and Media Art Festival and others.
