41 Short Films from 20 Countries Conform the 3D WIRE Fest Selection

The 3D Wire Fest will feature a total of 41 short films in its 2019 edition. A selection divided into 32 works in the international competition and 9 in the national one. Productions from 20 different countries in Asia, America, Europe and Oceania will fight to win one of the awards granted by the jury and the audience. The selection combines young talents and great names of international animation, which have recognitions of the most prestigious festivals and nominations for awards such as the Oscars, the Annie or the Goya awards; as well as a curriculum where great animated Hollywood productions appear.
In the national section we find 6 Spanish productions and another 3 in co-production with France and the Netherlands, respectively. Among the directors, names known for the Castilian-Leon competition such as Daniel Martínez Lara, winner of the 3D Wire Fest in 2015 and the Goya Award with his previous work (Alike); In this 2019 he will present his latest work: Hero, co-production between Spain and the Netherlands. Another of the participating co-productions is Lemons by Daniela Godel (Spain-France), selected in the last edition of Annecy. And Blind Eye a choral work of seven directors, students of the French school Gobelins, where Diego Porral is located (awarded in 3D Wire 2017 and nominated for the Goya Awards in its most recent edition).
Another name that has already been part of the contest before is David Fidalgo with Homomaquia, selected in the 2017 projects section. Carlos Baena with his multi-award-winning short film La noria also attended the event last year.
Alongside these titles, others appear in competition such as Muedra de Cesar Díaz Meléndez, animator who has worked on feature films such as Frankenweenie by Tim Burton, Anomalisa by Charlie Kaufman or Isle of Dogs by Wes Anderson. Also, the music video of the band Izal: The Amazing story of the Man that Could Fly and didn’t Know How, from the director Manuel Rubio, Idle by Pablo Muñoz, and I’m not Scared of the Crocodile by Marc Riba and Anna Solanas. Four of the nine national titles are works made in stop motion.
The international competition consists of 32 works from cinematographies as diverse as Japan, Iran, Australia or the United Kingdom, among others. A combination that will offer the public a picture of the current animation worldwide, combining young talents with established names such as Andrew Chesworth and Bobby Pontillas; both directors have worked for Disney in titles like Frozen or Rompe Ralph! and with One Small Step, the work in competition, they got an Oscar nomination. Other names that obtained this same nomination with one of their previous works are the Dutch Job Roggeveen, Joris Oprins, Marieke Blaauw; their latest work will be seen in Segovia: A Double Life.
The official section also features works recognized by festivals such as Cannes, Locarno or Sundance; this is the case respectively of And Then the Bear de Agnès Patron, I’m Going Out for Cigarettes by Osman Cerfon and Untravel by Nikola Majdak Jr. and Ana Nedeljkovic. The list is completed by a collection of animations that accumulate recognition from the public and the industry, a careful and high-level selection as the selection committee said.
The competitive section of the Festival has a jury already announced that it is formed by the Spanish director, screenwriter and producer Nuria G. Blanco (member of the Hollywood Academy), Argentinian Silvina Cornillón (coordinator of Ventana Sur Animation!), The Belgian Oscar Award nominee producer Vincent Tavier, and French Marc Aguesse (Catsuka manager). La Cárcel Espacio de Creación will be the space where the projections will take place over four sessions between September 30th and October 6th, when the 3D Wire List of Winners will be seen.
The four members of the jury arrive thanks to the support of Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) through their Program of Internationalization of Spanish Culture (PICE) in the modality of Visitors.
By last, there will be a special session of humor short films that will take place on September 24th at 9:00 p.m. at the Bar Santana. An act that completes a large film program with free admission to all sessions.
SPECIAL SESSION FOR CHILDREN
The contest presents another year a special screening dedicated to the little ones. The Peque 3D Wire is carried out as part of one of the main objectives of the market: audiovisual literacy and the creation of new viewers among the younger audience. On this occasion the special screening of the Danish feature film The incredible story of the giant pear, directed by Philip Einstein Lipski, Jørgen Lerdam and Amalie Næsby Fick, will take place. An adventure tape for the whole family where sea creatures, pirates and giant pears are mixed.
The screening will take place on Friday, September 27th at 6:00 p.m. at La Cárcel Espacio de Creación.
