16 Films Battle It Out In Best Animated Feature 2016 Oscar Race
It comes round so fast! But here we are again – the Academy have officially revealed the list of films long-listed for the Best Animated Feature Oscar.
There are fewer films that make it to this year’s longlist, compared to last year’s 20;. It is interesting to note that several of the films have not yet fulfilled the Los Angeles theatrical release requirement, which means they may not all make it to the voting stage. If this happens, and there are less than 16 films at the voting stage, the shortlist will consist of only 3 films, instead of 5.
It also means that it’s that time of year when you all vote for the films you want to see make it to the short list! Last year, Skwigly readers were way off the mark when they voted the top 3 films to be Song of the Sea (30%), The Lego Movie (24%), and The Book of Life (14%) – while the feature that scoped the award was Big Hero 6, which came in, rather coincidentally, in 6th place!
