10 Animated Shorts announced in running for 2014 Oscar
Earlier today, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced the ten animated shorts that have been shortlisted for the Best Animated Short Film category in the 86th Academy Awards. The NFB came out on top with a total of three nominations, including recent Skwigly Podcast Interviewee, Chris Landreth whilst a certain Hollywood-based Mouse is up for his first Oscar in a considerable time. Home-grown interest lies with “Room on the Broom” produced by London-based, “Magic Light Pictures”.

Perhaps most noticeably missing is Pixar’s The Blue Umbrella, directed by another friend of Skwigly, Saschka Unseld which didn’t make the cut. Short Films and Feature Animation Branch members will next whittle the ten down to three to five nominees for the show in March 2014.
The 10 films (from the original 86 eligible nominees) are listed below in alphabetical order by title, with their production companies:

- “Mr. Hublot” Laurent Witz, director, and Alexandre Espigares, co-director (Zeilt Productions)
- “Possessions” Shuhei Morita, director (Sunrise Inc.)
- “Requiem for Romance” Jonathan Ng, director (Kungfu Romance Productions Inc.)
- “Room on the Broom” Max Lang and Jan Lachauer, directors (Magic Light Pictures)
- “Subconscious Password” Chris Landreth, director (National Film Board of Canada with the participation of Seneca College Animation Arts Centre and Copperheart Entertainment)
